The Blind Beggar
337 Whitechapel Road, E1
- This is the pub made infamous by Ronnie
Kray, who shot George Cornell dead in it. For a long time the
pub played down the event but is now keen to cash-in on the notoriety.
Apart from that, it is actually quite an agreeable establishment
and has a nice outdoor section.

Urban Bar (a.k.a.London Hospital Tavern)
176 Whitechapel Road, E1
- A full-scale brawl between The Krays and a rival gang was
reported in the press the next day as the worst gang fight in
East London for years. In its trendy present-day incarnation,
it's hard to imagine being the haunt of gangsters.
