Whitehall - John Thorp Fri 4th Oct 2013

The Monopoly dice have led us to Whitehall this month. So we'll start at the Parliament end and head towards Trafalgar Square.

#1

6.00pm - 6.30pm

St.Stephens Tavern
10 Bridge Street, London, SW1A 2JR

- This pub is in a great location but on a Friday night is very busy packed with tourists and Parliamentary types, so we won't hang around here very long. Very interesting interior - worth a look in for that alone. Good beer too (Badgers).

#2

6.30pm - 7.15pm

Red Lion
48 Parliament St, London, SW1A 2NH

- This is a great London pub, if still a bit touristy and busy with after-work drinkers. Great real ales. Its quite narrow but there's normally space at the back.

#3

7.30pm - 8.15pm

The Clarence
53 Whitehall, London, SW1A 2HP

- The 10 minute walk to here from The Red Lion is the furthest we'll walk all evening. Since the refurb this pub has a modern feel with a good selection of belgian beers on tap.

#4

8.15pm - 9.30pm

The Old Shades
37 Whitehall, London, SW1A 2BX

- This slightly tourist pub (theres no real escape from tourists in Westminster) serves food until 10:00 pm even if it is fairly standard Nicholsons fare. The real ales are reasonably priced: probably because of the Wetherspoons on the other side of road.

#5

9.30pm - 10.15pm

Silver Cross
33 Whitehall, London, SW1A 2BX

- This is more of a mainstream tourist pub which is surpisingly spacious and also serves food. Not perhaps such a good place for the real ales but certainly a comfortable place to stop.

#6

10.15pm - closing

The Lord Moon Of The Mall
16-18, Whitehall, London, SW1A 2DY

- A familar location for those who have been around a while. Fairly standard Weatherspoons fare with a selection of real ales, but with plenty of space.
