Monkey Chews
12 Queens Crescent, NW5 4EP
- Normally one should save the best until last but this place
would have been too busy later on, though once settled in here,
it's difficult to leave. Early in the evening, the place has
agreeably few visitors.
Monkey Chews is a bit of a hidden secret: reminiscent of the
music venues back in the days when live music was commonplace
in London. The venue also has a restaurant in the back section
with spit-roasted chicken a mouth watering specialty on a menu
that also includes oysters and steaks.

The Enterprise
42 Haverstock Hill, NW3 2BL
- Once the haunt of Shane McGowan, it still retains an unpretentious
air.

Lock Tavern
35 Chalk Farm Road, NW1 8AJ
- This pub, full of trendy twenty-somethings too cool to be
seen trying to be noticed at some of the more gregarious establishments
elsewhere (Hawley Arms for example), refused to let some of the
pub crawlers in. Instead we hotfooted it over to The Cuban, which
was a fine substitute and which will be getting my business from
now on.

Cuban
Stables Market, Chalk Farm Rd, NW1 8AH.
- Functions as a restaurant and a bar, it would be good to
return with a group and sample the food.

Lockside Lounge
7589 West Yard, Camden Lock, NW1 8AF
- Another pub for cool people who don't want to be seen trying
too hard to be trendy, it is worth a visit for its views and
its relaxed air. It went down well with the pub crawlers.

Camden Lock. The Lockside Lounge is the red/pink lit
bit on the right, on the 1st floor.

Quinns
65 Kentish Town Road, NW1 8NY
- Away from the studied cool of the previous couple of pubs &
bars to more down to earth establishments. A locals place with
a marvellously long bar, Quinns has a huge offering of Belgian
beers.

Old Eagle
251 Royal College St, NW1 9LU
- Friendly pub that has an air of warmth about it. All aspects
of it are first class.
