Teddington - Anthony Smith

Friday 1st August 2008

Join us where the River Thames' tide ends... and the fun begins! Start at the King's Head.... and finish late at a Mensan owned pub!

Getting to Teddington

Nice and easy. Only 30 minutes from Waterloo and 20 minutes from Clapham Junction. There are 2 services (one in each direction) on the 'Kingston Loop' which runs clockwise through Wimbledon and Kingston, and anti-clockwise through Putney and Richmond, to Teddington, and for your convenience these are referred to as the Teddington service at the Central London end. Also, there is a service to Shepperton which stops at Teddington.

Getting home

Train station is close to (5 – 10 minutes’ walk from) final pub. Last train to Waterloo and CJ is 23.40

#1

6.00pm - 7.00pm

King's Head
123 High Street, Teddington TW11 8HG

- Turn left out of station onto Station Road. NB, this is on the southbound platform side, i.e. if you have come via Richmond. If you have come via Kingston, you will need to cross over. Turn right at top of Station Road onto High Street and King's Head is about 5 minutes walk, on your left. King's Head is a very smart country pub with a beer garden. Serves food.

#2

7.10pm - 8.00pm

Anglers Inn
3 Broom Road, Teddington TW11 9NR

- Turn left out of King's Head and proceed to end of High Street. Cross road at traffic lights and carry straight on along Ferry Road where you can enter the pub via the garden gate by the River Thames footbridge. Ideal for summer evenings this pub is on the riverside with an extensive garden. Serves food. This pub is next door to Teddington TV and film studios if you fancy a quick peek!

#3

8.10pm - 8.50pm

The Oak
172 High Street, Teddington TW11 8HU

- Back up Ferry Road and into the High Street. Pub is on your left, about 5 or 10 minutes walk from The Anglers. Recently refurbished to a high standard this privately owned pub has a good range of beers and wines, and exquisite food. Also has outside seating both front and back.

#4

9.00pm - 9.30pm

Builders' Arms
38 Field Lane, Teddington TW11 9AS

- Turn left out of The Oak and proceed along High Street. Field Lane is your third left and pub is a few minutes' walk on your right on corner of Bridgeman Road. Builders' Arms is a traditional local, decorated with pretty flowers at this time of year. You will receive a friendly welcome! Some outside seating.

#5

9.40pm - 10.10pm

The Adelaide
57 Park Road, Teddington TW11 0AU

- Turn left along Bridgeman Road to Station Road. Turn left to station and cross over platform footbridge. This will act as handy reference to station location for your getting home later on. However, no nipping off early as the best is yet to come! Turn left out of station and then turn right into Albert Road. Turn left at end, and The Adelaide is on the corner of Albert Road and Park Road. This is also a good quality and friendly local with outside seating both front and back.

#6

10.20pm - late!

Queen Dowager
49 North Lane, Teddington TW11 0HU

- Cross over Park Road and turn right. Proceed along Park Road past the police station and take the second left along Middle Lane. Go to the very end of Middle Lane including the footpath at the very end and turn left. Queen Dowager is about 30 seconds on your left. Plenty of outside seating if it's still warm. This is our final pub and I hope that you will all come and relax with the landlord, Mensan, Mark Plant. Since Mark took over and refurbished the pub last year, this has become one of my regular haunts. I highly recommend it.
