Three lions, two of them red, one cocktail bar and
no gentlemen's' outfitters. Suits you?

Fifth View, Waterstones
Waterstones, Piccadilly W1J 9LE
- Something different to start with, an amuse-bouche if you will.
This is the bar in Waterstones on Piccadilly. As the name suggests,
it's on the fifth floor and it has a view, quite an impressive
one actually. The bar offers a wide range of bottled beers and
wine from around the world, plus a tempting selection of cocktails.
They probably also do a nice cup of tea.

Three Crowns
Babmaes Street, SW1Y 6HD
- Leave Waterstones by the back door on to Jermyn Street, turn
left and tucked down the road to the right is the Three Crowns.
Babmaes Street doesn't actually go anywhere which means there's
plenty of room to spill out on to the pavement if it's too busy
inside.

The Chequers
16 Duke Street, SW1Y 6DB
- Usually the quietest pub in the area, it's nevertheless a decent
boozer. There's plenty of space out the back if the weather's
holding up (hopefully summer will have arrived by September).
I forgot to check when they serve food but Fancyapint says it
has a "simple but cheap food menu".

The Golden Lion
25 King Street, SW1Y 6QY
- This rather grand-looking pub has been awarded London Heritage
Inn status. Sadly, those people at Nicholsons have got their
hands on it but it's still a decent pub. There should be plenty
of room in the upstairs room if not elsewhere. I've got my eye
on the two chairs outside on the balcony.

The Red Lion
Crown Passage, SW1Y 6PP
- Hidden away down Crown Passage (beyond the Davy's) is the second
of the Lions and the first of the Red Lions. This one is a charmingly
old-fashioned place. Again, there's an upstairs room if there's
not enough space downstairs. Whisky fans will be impressed by
the range on offer.

The Red Lion
2 Duke of York St, SW1Y 6JP
- This Red Lion takes us back towards the hubbub of Piccadilly
but should hopefully be a bit quieter by this time. Again, another
old pub that's had a bit of a refurb but it's all quite tastefully
done.
