Previous First Friday pub crawls

Pre-March 2001

First Friday pub crawls have been established in London Mensa for many years. Rhys Jenkins was the host for a while, then Helen Cronin, who ran them for many years up until March 2001.

May 2001 - October 2003

The post-Helen Cronin era found that no one was particularly willing to host the crawls on a permanent and regular basis. To solve this problem, an A-Z of pub crawl routes was devised; the theme holding the pub crawls together while allowing different hosts. This website was also started by Pendar Sillwood, with the introduction of various measures designed to improve accessibility and attendance at the crawls, such as the full listing of the intended pubs for the evening, times of arrival and duration, maps with the pubs indicated, dialogue from the host explaining the crawl and occasionally the history of the pubs, and more:

November 2003 - April 2006

The A-Z theme was so successful (and because no one could think of a better idea) a second A-Z run was started. A companion A-Z of restaurant visits was run concurrently with it, although that was discontinued about half way through:

May 2006 - Dec 2008

This website and the 'various hosts' format of the pub crawls were sufficiently established by this stage to allow the crawls to revert back to being non-themed. Being themed was causing restrictions e.g. not being able to host summer crawls along the river or other good summer locations due to there not being a suitable area for the corresponding A-Z letter that the crawl had reached:

Jan 2009 - March 2011

Various hosts felt that after two and a half years of non-themed crawls, inspiration for new crawls was running out. Thus another theme was introduced - the Circle Line:
